10 MCU Heroes Powerful Enough to Fight Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set to be released in theaters in May 2025 and will arrive six years after the previous Avengers film, Avengers: Endgame opened in theaters. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has still been moving forward and introduced plenty of new heroes, there have been no official Avengers team in the franchise and many projects have raised the question if the Avengers even are around anymore. They certainly will need to come together once more when Kang the Conqueror and his many variants begin attacking the MCU.
It is safe to say that by the time Avengers: The Kang Dynasty opens in theaters, it will be more akin to Avengers: Infinity War which not only featured the Avengers team but also included heroes like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. By the time The Kang Dynasty arrives, the MCU will have The Fantastic Four, the Eternals, Thunderbolts, and possibly the Young Avengers to stand against Kang. With that in mind though, which heroes should unite to fight Kang under the Avengers team?
While there are some obvious picks, from long-standing members like Hulk and Thor to powerhouse heroes like Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange, it would be more interesting to unite heroes who are both relatively new to the franchise but also don’t have as much history with one another. That follows the structure of the original The Avengers, uniting heroes from different franchises who didn’t know one another against a powerful foe. With that in mind here are the ten heroes who should unite to fight against Kang the Conqueror.
10 Moon Knight
Moon Knight so far has been in his own corner of the MCU, removed from much of the main story with his series having no direct connection to the wider franchise. That makes him a perfect fit to join the Avengers and go up against Kang the Conqueror, since part of the appeal behind making Avengers projects is pulling characters from different corners and mashing them together even if it seems like they don’t belong.
Moon Knight provides a clear supernatural edge to the team and his connection to the Egyptian god Khonshu might also have a connection to the Kang variant Rama-Tut who once ruled over Ancient Egypt.
9 Spider-Man
Spider-Man is the most famous Marvel superhero around, and if there is an Avengers movie it is a safe bet that Marvel will put him in the film. Currently, the only factor in making Spider-Man a sure thing is the fact that Sony and Marvel Studios have to make a deal for the character to appear, and despite Spider-Man: No Way Home’s massive box office success it has been over a year since that films release and no word has been made on a new Spider-Man film.
Rumors have begun to circulate that previous Spider-Man Tom Holland may have signed a new deal and will appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Spider-Man might be one of the best heroes to face off against Kang since he has already had his own multiversal adventure and his knowledge of other variants might be a key factor in helping the Avengers learn about defeating the Kang Dynasty.
8 Werewolf by Night
Who could have guessed when Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was announced at Comic-Con in 2022 that a fan-favorite hero in the MCU would be Jack Russell aka Werewolf by Night? While the Werewolf by Night Halloween special was rumored Disney did not officially announce it until D23 the following month. Often an obscure character in Marvel Comics who is often eclipsed in popularity by Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night excitingly broke out as an instant favorite due to his appearance in htis special.
The character has not been attached to any upcoming projects, but Werewolf by Night should be upgraded as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to defeat Kang. His human persona Jack Russell has shown to be a kind, compassionate person that could provide an everyman perspective to the Avengers while his Werewolf form could provide the unleashed raw strength The Hulk brought to the original team.
7 Black Panther
Shuri stepped into the role of Black Panther and protector of Wakanda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever following the tragic passing of her brother T’Challa due to the real-world passing of star Chadwick Boseman. Shuri is a very different Black Panther from her brother and one that is still learning exactly how to be a hero.
Shuri certainly would provide the technical knowledge to go up against a villain like Kang the Conqueror. The Black Panther mantle has always been an important part of the Avengers lineup in the comics and that should be reflected in the MCU.
6 Wasp
Wasp already has dealings with Kang the Conqueror due to their fight in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania so she is the hero right now best equipped to face off against him as she already has a general idea of what he is capable of. Wasp is a skilled fighter and scientist, and the Ant-Man movies have shown multiple times she is a more capable hero than Scott Lang’s Ant-Man.
Ant-Man has been given quite the time to shine in the MCU so it is time to give Wasp the spotlight. Wasp was dusted in Avengers: Endgame so Ant-Man was acting solo, and it would be a nice reverse for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty if Ant-Man was absent and Wasp got to step out on her own apart from Ant-Man. The Wasp mantle has strong ties to the Avengers in the comics and has even been the team’s leader at different points so it would be fitting for Wasp to help assemble a new team of heroes to fight the threat of Kang and his variants.
5 Captain America
Captain America is an important part of the MCU, and Steve Rogers passed the mantle to Sam Wilson who officially adopted the title at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and will lead Captain America: New World Order.
Sam Wilson is in many ways both a long-established legacy hero in the MCU and also getting the spotlight as a new hero, so he could fill the role of a new Avengers team leader. Just like Steve Rogers facing down Thanos alone, Sam Wilson has the courage and heart to face down Kang the Conqueror even if he is the last one standing.
4 Namor
While Namor was the antagonist of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in the comics the character is traditionally an anti-hero and has fought alongside the superheroes of the Marvel Universe when a threat arises. Namor’s power levels are close to The Hulk and very much could be as strong as Thor which would make him a worthy opponent to face off against Kang. Yet the ideological differences between Kang and Namor are what make for the most interesting conflict.
Namor has spent his life trying to protect his people from the threat of invasion, of being conquered the same way his mother’s people were. His hatred for the surface world and his almost declaring war on them are rooted in real fears of colonization. Kang the Conqueror, as his name implies, is the ultimate colonizer and will take over or destroy civilizations if he sees so. A conflict between Namor and Kang is essentially a fight between two leaders who will not bow to the other.
3 She-Hulk
She-Hulk is probably the most well-defined new character in the MCU, as her Disney+ series spent a great deal of time developing Jennifer Walters’ personality, her wants and desires, and her relationship to the wider MCU universe. She has recently stepped up as both a lawyer and a superhero and the arrival of Kang the Conqueror might be the time to show her true strength. She is one of the strongest characters in the MCU so would provide the team with the muscle they need but also provide a sense of levity to the team that Tony Stark brought to the previous team outings.
2 Ms. Marvel
Ms. Marvel is just a normal teenager who has been thrown into the crazy world of superheroes in her own Disney+ series and the upcoming feature film The Marvels. This is a person who has fantasized about superheroes for her entire life, so it would be incredibly rewarding to see her officially join The Avengers to fight off Kang the Conqueror.
Even if Marvel does not feature the Kang variant of Ms. Marvel named Kamala Kang (but they really should), Kamala Khan should be an important part of both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. She said in her series, “It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world,” which could be brought full circle in the MCU’s future by having Ms. Marvel be one of the heroes to save the multiverse.
1 Shang-Chi
Shang-Chi might be the most important hero in the Multiverse Saga. He was the first new solo hero in the entire Multiverse Saga and the director of his film, Destin Daniel Cretton, will direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. That makes Shang-Chi’s inclusion in the film the closest thing to a sure thing.
Shang-Chi is now in possession of the ten rings which due to their ancient history may have a connection to Kang the Conqueror. Shang-Chi may not have any traditional superpowers and is just a skilled fighter without the rings, but it is that factor that makes him the perfect Avengers. One does not need superpowers, anyone from any background can be a hero if their heart is in the right place.
