Afterlife Star Mckenna Grace Cannot Wait to Return for the Sequel

Afterlife Star Mckenna Grace Cannot Wait to Return for the Sequel

Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Mckenna Grace cannot wait to return to the supernatural world of the Ghostbusters in an upcoming sequel. Speaking with Comicbook.com, Grace, who joined the franchise in last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife as the granddaughter of Egon Spengler, reveals that she has been pestering director Jason Reitman over the story details. While he has been rather unforthcoming in that regard, the young actress is just excited to bring Phoebe Spengler back for more.

“I’m constantly pressuring Jason Reitman, our director, I’m always trying to figure out what the story is. I literally have no ounce of a clue what the story is. If I knew about a Marvel film or if I knew about Ghostbusters, I’d be sitting here and I’d be like, ‘I have no clue, and it’s driving me nuts.’ I’m just excited to do a second one. I’m just excited to be Phoebe.”

Directed by Jason Reitman and starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, Ghostbusters: Afterlife beamed into theaters towards the end of last year. Set thirty years after the 1989 sequel Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows a family who move to a small town, where they discover their connection to the original ghost-busting team. When supernatural phenomena relating to New York City’s “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984” occur and threaten the world, the kids, along with their family and friends, must solve the decades-old mystery of the relocation of their grandfather and use the equipment of the Ghostbusters to become their successors and save us all.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was well-received by both critics and audiences alike, grossing $204 million worldwide against a production budget of $75 million, with a sequel announced earlier this year.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 Will Take the Action Back to Manhattan

While Mckenna Grace continues to try her best to get some story details out of Jason Reitman, earlier reports have revealed that Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 will take the action back to Manhattan. Writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan have revealed that the working title for the sequel is Firehouse, which suggests that Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 will see the new crew return to where it all began.

“At the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Ecto-1 is driving into Manhattan, returning to its home,” Reitman revealed. “And before anyone ever heard the title Afterlife, we called it Rust City. Which would not have made sense to anyone until they saw the movie. The code name for the next movie is ‘Firehouse.’”

Kenan adds, “We’re writing as quickly as we can. We had the story before we finished Afterlife. And we have been crafting this with as much care as it took to build Afterlife into a worthy sequel.”

Directed by Jason Reitman and starring Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, the Ghostbusters: Afterlife follow-up is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2023. Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 is not the only offering from the beloved franchise on the horizon, with an animated series recently announced to be in development.
