Benedict Cumberbatch Refused to Talk to his The Power of the Dog Co-Star Kirsten Dunst

Benedict Cumberbatch reveals intense on-set interaction with The Power of the Dog co-star Kirsten Dunst.

According to a recent report by The Digital Fix, actor Benedict Cumberbatch avoided speaking to Kirsten Dunst while they were shooting the western film The Power of the Dog. The dark, intricate plot of the Jane Campion-directed movie and the film’s cast’s powerful performances have generated a lot of buzz since its 2021 release, and the relationship between Cumberbatch and Dunst on set, according to sources close to the production, was tense. Cumberbatch wouldn’t speak with Dunst when the cameras weren’t rolling. According to Cumberbatch, the cause of their strained-on-set relationship was entirely due to his commitment to the role. In an interview with NME, Cumberbatch stated:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I didn’t want to be really mean to Kirsten, but I needed to stay in character. So I didn’t speak to her on-set. She was the same. We were the negative to each other’s positive. [We were] repelled by each other.”

Commonly known as method acting, this rather intense approach to acting is frequently used by actors, especially when their roles are very distinct from who they are personally. Many find it simpler to enter the mentality of their character when they suppress their own personalities.

Peyton Reed Shares His thoughts on a Potential Bring It On sequelBring It On

The 2000 American cheerleading comedic movie Bring It On has gained cult status over time. The film features Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union and tells the tale of two competing cheerleading squads. Because of its popularity, viewers have been speculating about the likelihood of a sequel starring the original ensemble.

Peyton Reed, the original Bring It On director, was recently questioned about the prospect of Dunst and Union returning for a sequel. According to Reed, seeing the two actresses reprise their parts as Torrance and Isis and see where they are now would be entertaining. According to The Digital Spy, Reed continued,

“We had Kirsten and Gabrielle and Jessica Bendinger, who wrote the original. We got together for the 20th anniversary, which was a couple of years ago and started talking about [it]. We’d always been thinking about it. What if there’s a legacy sequel that features the whole original cast? Obviously, 20 some years later, we would come at that movie from a totally different direction. And Gabrielle has not only ideas, but great ideas. So, that is something that I hope we can continue to discuss. [It] could happen..”

Reed added that it would be difficult to produce a sequel that meets the same high standards as the original movie but believes it is doable with the proper storyline. Reed also emphasized that any follow-up movie would need to correctly depict how aspects of cheerleading have evolved since the first film’s release.

In summary, even though there aren’t any firm plans for a Bring It On movie starring Union and Dunst, the notion is still up for discussion, given Reed’s interest in the idea and the success of the first movie and subsequent movies.
