Later, Malone enrolled at Iona College. He only participated in one game for the Iona Gaels men’s basketball team in 1960, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1962.

Brendan Malone Death

Brendan Malone’s death occurred on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. At the time of his death, he was 81 years old. He was born on April 21, 1942. He spent 27 seasons in the NBA as an assistant coach. His 27-year coaching career had taken him to the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Orlando Magic.

His son, Michael Malone, is the coach of the Denver Nuggets currently. If anyone will be so devastated by Brendan Malone’s death, it has to be his son, Michael.

The Nuggets released the following statement announcing the death of Michael Malone: “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of longtime NBA coach Brendan Malone, who holds a special place amongst the organization and will be a Denver Nugget forever. Coach Brendan Malone was a great man who left behind a great legacy in the world of basketball, but he will be remembered even more for the amazing husband, father, son, and grandfather that he was and the profound impact he had on the friends, family, and colleagues who were lucky enough to know him. Our thoughts are with the entire Malone family and all of Brendan’s loved ones who are feeling this loss today.”

Malone was given the Lifetime Impact Award by the National Basketball Coaches Association earlier this summer. “I want to thank the National Basketball Coaches Association for this award,” Malone said then. “Tex Winter was a man I got to know and respect. I also want to thank all of the head coaches that I enjoyed working with during my 29-year career in the NBA, in particular Hubie Brown, who brought me into the league; Chuck Daly and our two championships; the Van Gundys, Stan, and Jeff, and Don Chaney. Lastly, I want to thank my wife Maureen and our six children for sharing my journey.”

There has been no known cause of death for Brendan Maloney as of yet, but given he was 81 years old, his health must have sadly deteriorated, leading to his sad demise. Brendan Malone’s death will definitely leave a void in the hearts of the many people whose lives he influenced.
