DIG Vijayakumar has tragically taken his own life by firing a pistol at himself. The incident occurred earlier today in Coimbatore. Vijayakumar had been serving as the Deputy Inspector General in Coimbatore for several years. Known for his dedication, the officer’s demise has left his colleagues and acquaintances stunned and deeply saddened.
Police officials were rushed to the incident after gunshots were heard at DIG Vijayakumar’s residence. They found the lifeless body of the esteemed officer. The body has been sent to the Government Hospital of Coimbatore for post-mortem. The motive behind this suicide remains unclear at this time, as investigators diligently work to piece together the circumstances leading to this tragedy.
As per reports, the officer returned home from his morning walk around 6.45 am and asked his personal security officer to hand over his pistol. He reportedly shot himself around 6.50 am. The report also says the officer was under depression and was under medication for lack of sleep. “He was provided with counseling, and his family was also brought to Coimbatore a few days ago,”.
Vijayakumar was from the 2009 batch of IPS graduates. He served as a Superintendent in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, and Kanchipuram. Before Coimbatore, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Anna Nagar in Chennai.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, police officials, and citizens alike have expressed their condolences over the loss of such a distinguished officer, remembering him as a dedicated servant of justice.
