Vijayakumar is a Police officer who served as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Tamil Nadu Police. On 7 July 2023, he took his own life by firing his sidearm at himself. According to sources, he went for a morning walk to his camp office around 6:45 am. He asked for his PSO’s firearm and shot himself dead around 6:50 am. As per reports, Vijayakumar was under a heavy depression and has not been able to sleep for the past few weeks. After the first round of investigation, police reported it a suicide, but the real motive for his act is still unknown.
The body was sent to Coimbatore GH for post-mortem. Vijayakumar took charge as the DIG of police in Coimbatore city on 6 January 2023. He was a 2009 batch IPS officer. Previously, he served as a police superintendent in Kancheepuram and served as a deputy commissioner of police in Chennai. He was promoted and transferred as DIG to Coimbatore range.
