Evander Kane comes from a family of athletes. His parents, siblings, uncles, and cousins were all good at sports when they were young.

Kane was born in Vancouver, Canada, on August 2, 1991, to his loving parents, Perry Kane and Sheri Kane. He grew up with two younger sisters in East Vancouver and went to John Oliver Secondary.

In high school, the athlete played hockey, baseball, basketball, and soccer. His father, who also played ice hockey, taught him all of these sports. His father has helped him get so far in his career.

Evander started skating when he was three and played minor ice hockey when he was eight. In the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the Thrashers picked him up. During his career, the ice hockey player has played for the Atlanta Thrashers, the Buffalo Sabres, the Winnipeg Jets, and the San Jose Sharks. He is now playing for the Edmonton Oilers.

Kirk used to be a professional boxer. In 2002, he went up against John Ruiz for the World Boxing Association heavyweight title. He fought from 1993 to 2010, and he boxed for Canada at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Evander Kane’s Parents Were Athletes In Their Prime

Perry Kane and Sheri Kane, Evander Kane’s parents, both played sports when they were younger.

His father played hockey professionally, and his mother played volleyball and basketball professionally.

Perry started playing hockey with his brother Leonard when he was 16. It wasn’t easy back then, so he didn’t go pro with it. He also used to box for fun.

Every day, Evander played with his dad by himself. The two players would have many stick-and-puck shots on an open net and the boards. From the age of three, Papa Kane taught his son how to skate and shoot the puck.

Evander Kane’s father grew up in East Preston, Nova Scotia, with his four siblings. East Preston is a small, close-knit town outside of Dartmouth.

He was a talented and skilled ice hockey player, but he had to think about many other things, so he chose a different path. Later, the former athlete and his wife started a family and moved to East Vancouver.

Evander Kane’s Mother Sheri Kane Was A Pro Athlete

Evander’s mother, Sheri, was a professional volleyball and basketball player. Unlike Evander’s father, who was not interested in sports, Sheri was.

She played volleyball at the University of Calgary and was always there for her son when he fell. While Evander’s dad helped him become a pro hockey player, his mom made sure he got everything he wanted.

Evander Holyfield, an American boxer whom he met when he was 18, was the name his parents gave him.

Evander is also a new dad or mom. He is happy to have two children. He and his ex-wife, Anna, have a beautiful daughter together named Kensington Ava Kane. Kensington turned 2 on July 4, 2022. Also, on May 25, 2022, his partner Mara gave birth to a boy they named Iverson Frank Kane.

Evander Kane Has Two Gorgeous Sisters

Evander Kane has two younger sisters, Brea Kane and Kyla Kane, who are also his sisters. His sisters also played sports. They danced and played soccer.

When they were growing up, the siblings shared a room because they only had two bedrooms and one bathroom for five people. So, one side of the room was painted blue and the other pink.

Since Evander joined one of the most expensive sports for kids, the family had to make changes to how much they spent. His mother worked as a dental assistant, and his father ran a bakery and bread delivery service. The older Kane also sold cars at a dealership on the side.

Early years

Kane went to high school at John Oliver Secondary when he was growing up in East Vancouver. He also played baseball, basketball, and soccer when he was younger. At age three, he learned to skate, and at age eight, he started playing minor ice hockey. His father taught him when he was young, and at first he didn’t want him to play organized hockey until he was ten. Kane was on a team from North Vancouver that went to the 2003 and 2004 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments. At age 14, Kane played for the bantam North Shore Winter Club and scored 140 points in 66 games. He then played for the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BC Hockey Major Midget League and scored 22 goals and 54 points to finish fourth in the league in scoring (BCMML). Before he played bantam and midget hockey, Kane also played minor hockey with the Vancouver Thunderbirds.

Getting a job

The Vancouver Giants picked Kane with the 19th pick in the WHL Bantam Draft in 2006. He played his first game in the WHL on December 13, 2006, against the Seattle Thunderbirds. This was because other Giants players had to go to the World Junior Championships, which took place in other countries. Kane scored his first WHL goal on March 25, 2007, the last game of the regular season. It was a goal that tied the game. He also played in five WHL playoff games. He was first called up for the playoffs when Giants forward Tim Kraus was suspended for the third game of the first round. Later, he played in two Memorial Cup games and got an assist, which helped the Giants win the 2007 Memorial Cup.

Kane was about to start his first season with the Giants the following year, but he had a small setback when he got mononucleosis and had to miss the start of training camp. He got better, though, and joined the Giants full-time. In his first WHL season, he scored 24 goals and 41 points, which put him third in team scoring. He was nominated for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL rookie of the year, but Brayden Schenn of the Brandon Wheat Kings won it. He was tenth in rookie scoring.

Kane had a great start to the 2008–09 season. In his first 22 games, he got at least one point in each of them. After scoring his first WHL hat-trick on October 10, 2008, against the Kelowna Rockets, he was named WHL Player of the Week on October 12. His linemate Casey Pierro-Zabotel had been chosen the week before. Kane got a spot on Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championships as a replacement for someone who got hurt. Kane was named player of the week for the second time this season on January 12, 2009. He had just come back from the World Juniors with a gold medal and had scored six points in two games right after the tournament. Later that month, he was captain of Team Cherry at the 2009 CHL Top Prospects Game.

Kane finished his second season in the WHL with 48 goals and 96 points, which was good for fourth place in the league.

Adam Courchaine’s record of 43 goals in a single season for the team was broken. Pierro-Zabotel led the team in scoring with 115 points, and he and Kane finished second and third in all-time Giants single-season scoring. Both Pierro-Zabotel and Kane beat Gilbert Brulé’s previous record of 87 points. Kane and his teammates Pierro-Zabotel and Jonathon Blum were named to the WHL West First Team All-Stars. After the Giants swept the Prince George Cougars in the first round of the 2009 playoffs, Kane scored a game-winning goal in double overtime in the second round against the Spokane Chiefs to force a seventh game. The Giants beat the Chiefs in seven games, but the Kelowna Rockets beat them in six games in the semi-finals. Kane got 15 points over the course of 17 postseason games.
