Lionel Messi has been warned to resist proposals from the MLS if he still considers himself a serious player by Simon Jordan.

Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in June and speculation over his future has already begun.

Jordan says Messi should not entertain the idea of moving to the MLS

Former club Barcelona have made no secret of their desire to see Messi return to the club after his shock exit in 2021 but will need to offload members of their squad to have any hope of re-signing their legend.

PSG are believed to be preparing a blockbuster offer to entice the star to commit to the French Champions until 2025 whilst David Beckham’s Inter Miami have become the latest club to throw their hat into the ring for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

But Jordan has warned Messi against swapping European football for MLS, insisting the Argentine can still perform in the world’s best leagues.

“He’s 35 years of age – two-years younger than [Cristiano] Ronaldo. If he thinks he’s still a serious footballer he’s not going to America is he?” Jordan told NaijaOnPoint.

“He’s a genius of a footballer and like everything, everything runs its course so I’d be disappointed to see him land at Planet Hollywood, in Beckham’s circus.

“This is arguably the world’s greatest player at a stage of his career where he should be able to perform in the elite leagues.

“So going to America – I don’t know what that says.”

Sources close to the star have confirmed Messi and his family have settled in the French capital and he is happy at PSG.

His first season in Ligue 1 did not go to plan as he became accustomed to his new surroundings. Messi scored 11 goals in a topsy-turvey season that saw him lift the Ligue 1 title but crash out to old foes Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16.

This season has been a different matter altogether with the Argentine enjoying a new approach under new coach Christophe Galtier.

So far this season he has having posted a staggering 12 goals and 13 assists in 17 games.

Despite the upturn in form, Jordan does not view Messi’s stint at the Parc des Princes as a successful one after his 17-year professional career at the Camp Nou.

Jordan added: “Let’s be fair, he hasn’t set the world alight at PSG – he’s played 38 league games and scored 13 goals. That’s not Lionel Messi-esque is it?

“That’s not the statistics we have associated with him.

“It was a move that was born out of economic need. He’s gone to PSG with a big fanfare and I don’t think that fanfare has been repaid in terms of his achievement.

“I don’t think his trip to Paris has been a success by his standards.”
