Jordan Tirico is an athlete and the son of Tirico. He was the team captain when he played soccer at Skyline High School.

Jordan stopped being an athlete a few years ago. After that, he went to school at Stanford.

His LinkedIn profile says that he will graduate in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science.

Jordan is happy with the way his writing career is going. He helps people with writing and speaking at Stanford University’s Hume Center for Writing and Speaking. Before this, he worked at Stanford University as an assistant researcher.

Career

Tirico became a SportsCenter anchor for ESPN in 1991. Before that, he worked for four years as the Sports Director at Syracuse, New York’s CBS affiliate WTVH while he was a student at Syracuse University.

Tirico was known for how flexible he was and how many different jobs he did for SportsCenter. Tirico was the first host to be seen on ESPNews. Tirico did play-by-play for ESPN’s Thursday night college football package from 1997 to 2005, college basketball coverage from 1997 to 2002, NBA coverage from 2002 to 2016, and golf coverage for ESPN/ABC from 2002 to 2016. (1997 to 2015). Tirico also hosted studio coverage of different ESPN and ABC events, such as ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown (which used to be called NFL Prime Monday) and ABC’s NBA studio shows. He also talked about the NBA Finals on ESPN Radio and NBA games on ESPN/ABC. He was the lead anchor for the 2009 U.S. Open tennis tournament and a co-lead anchor for the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and the UEFA Euro 2016 (his last job at ESPN/ABC).

Sports on NBC (2016–present)

After a leak the month before, it was made official on May 9, 2016, that Mike Tirico would join NBC Sports on July 1, 2016.

[18] Tirico left ESPN for the last time at the end of the day’s coverage of the UEFA Euro 2016 soccer tournament on June 30, 2016. Tirico’s first on-air appearance on an NBC show was during the 2016 Open Championship on NBC’s Golf Channel. He called play-by-play for the first three hours of coverage of the first and second rounds. Tirico took over as studio host on Thursday and Friday afternoons, and he was in charge of all NBC coverage over the weekend.

Tirico was a studio host and contributor for NBC’s August 2016 Summer Olympics coverage from Rio de Janeiro.

[18] Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated said that Tirico could possibly replace Bob Costas as NBC’s primetime Olympics host. After the 2014 Winter Olympics, NBC Sports chairman Mark Lazarus said that the division had started to “think about what life might be like after Bob, whether it’s after Rio, after Pyeongchang, or after Tokyo, whenever he decides to stop doing it.” Deitsch also thought that Tirico could help the NBC Sports Radio network because he had experience in radio.

The Sports Business Journal said at first that Tirico would be NBC’s main play-by-play announcer for Thursday Night Football (which was moving to NBC for the upcoming season) and would likely replace Al Michaels in the future.

Later, the NFL said that its contract with NBC said that the network had to use its main play-by-play announcer for all prime-time games.

In the meantime, Tirico called the two preseason games that NBC was given, and he was put in charge of play-by-play for NBC’s first three Notre Dame college football games because Dan Hicks had to be at the 2016 Ryder Cup, where he was the lead play-by-play announcer. Tirico would join Hicks to talk about the event on Sunday along with Hicks.

Tirico was in charge of two late-season games for the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football package. The games were on a Saturday and Christmas Sunday, and Doug Flutie and Tony Dungy were the coaches.

In November 2016, NBC announced that Tirico would fill in for Al Michaels as the play-by-play announcer for three Sunday Night Football games (including the primetime game on Thanksgiving) and one Thursday Night Football game. Michaels had asked for time off because NBC had more NFL work to do.

Bob Costas announced on February 9, 2017, that he would be leaving his job as the primetime host of NBC’s Olympics coverage. He said that Tirico would take his place starting with the 2018 Winter Olympics. Tirico also took Costas’s place as the studio host for NFL coverage on NBC and Football Night in America.

On May 31, 2017, it was announced that Mike Tirico would take over as the play-by-play announcer for all NBC Thursday Night Football games, replacing Al Michaels.

In 2017, Tirico took over for Tom Hammond as the Triple Crown announcer and became the Notre Dame football play-by-play announcer full-time.

Tirico didn’t go to Super Bowl LII because he wanted to spend more time getting ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which started the next Friday.

In the 2018 NFL season, after losing Thursday Night Football to Fox, Tirico was put in charge of NBC’s Thanksgiving game. He was joined by Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison, who worked with him on Football Night in America. In December, Fox Sports made two NFL Network Special games that he called.
