Wolverine Does Irreparable Damage To Hugh Jackman’s Well-Being

Wolverine’s healing abilities just couldn’t help the actor in real life.

In the last two decades, Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine in eight films, two of which are uncredited cameos, in the X-Men film franchise. However, while the fans have enjoyed watching the actor as Wolverine, playing the fictional animalistic character apparently resulted in irreparable damage to the actor’s well-being. The 54-year-old actor has revealed to BBC’s radio show Front Row that his portrayal of the character has caused permanent damage to his vocal cords.

Booking the role of Wolverine does not only require Jackman to act, but he also needs to growl as required by his character. However, constant growling on set has caused lifelong damage to his voice. Unfortunately for Jackman, while Wolverine possesses a powerful regenerative ability to heal his body, the actor is only a normal human outside the X-Men franchise.

He revealed to Front Row, “I’ve done some damage to my voice with Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be and that I directly put down to some of the growling and yelling. My vocal teacher in drama school would’ve been horrified with some of the things I did [as Wolverine].”

Jackman continued, “We learned a technique [in school] of how to shout and how to yell without ruining your voice. However, during Wolverine, I did some screaming and yelling and things that I think did damage to my voice. I’m working on it. I work with a singing teacher and I try not to hurt myself. I put a lot of effort into both physical movement and my vocal preparation for every role.”

Despite the damage to Jackman’s well-being, he couldn’t say no when a project to reprise his beloved role came his way. He is set to return to the big screen yet again through Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool 3. Prior to Deadpool 3, Jackman last played Wolverine in Logan, released in 2017. Deadpool 3 is slated for theatrical release on November 8, 2024.

Not many details about the film have been revealed to the public. However, Deadpool 3’s storyline reads: “A weary Wolverine finds himself recovering from his injuries when he comes across a loudmouth Deadpool who has time travelled forward to heal his greatest pal in the hopes to befriend the wild beast and to team up to take down a foe they both have in common.”
