Zac Efron Addresses Wolverine Casting Rumors Following Hugh Jackman’s Return to the Role
Zac Efron, like many, has been the subject of MCU rumors for some time, and has recently commented on a possible MCU future.
While everyone is talking about the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, his Greatest Showman co-star Zac Efron has been responding to casting rumors that he could be in line to take over the role in the future. With every actor from Taron Egerton to Daniel Radcliffe being suggested to be in the running to take on the clawed X-Men legend, Efron is just another of the names that have been thrown into the ring as a potential candidate to take on the coveted role when Jackman once again hangs up his superhero boots, and although the actor seems up for a future role in the MCU, he is not taking anything from Jackman.
Ryan Reynolds instigated an internet meltdown last week with a nonchalant announcement that Hugh Jackman just happens to be returning to what is arguably his most iconic role of Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3. As the dust settled on that news and the fan theories about how the characters of Wolverine and Deadpool will come together in the movie, Jimmy Fallon brought the attention back to what happens after that, when Jackman once again moves on from the role. With Zac Efron appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the subject of potentially taking on the role was addressed by Efron, who said:
“Wow, they could just call me. I think Hugh’s still doing that pretty well. I got to give it to him.”
Hugh Jackman’s return to Wolverine has been a surprise that has really thrown a spanner in the works of all of those candidates out there lining up to take his place – a hard task that has now just been made a whole lot harder.
Zac Efron’s MCU Debut Has Been Rumored for Years
Like many other popular actors, ac Efron has been rumored to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a number of years. Back in 2019, it was rumored that Marvel was hunting for a “Zac Efron type,” but there was no confirmation of which project this was in relation to or if Efron himself was “Efron Type” enough to be actually considered.
Since then, the actor has been linked to possible characters such as Marc Spector in Moon Knight and Ikaris in Eternals, among others, including Wolverine. While it seems only a matter of time until someone of Efron’s caliber will make an appearance as part of the greatest Marvel show in the world, it seems that we are still no further forward in discovering who that could be or when it will actually happen. Right now, there is a lot of potential casting news in the works from Marvel Studios, with the cast of Fantastic Four still to be announced and numerous X-Men characters coming down the line in a few years.
Efron’s reaction to a potential Marvel role makes it clear that, like many other stars, the former High School Musical actor would be more than happy to answer the call if Kevin Feige made it. Who knows? Perhaps he already has.
